READING RACES-The Essentials

  • Reading University Head (March)
  • Reading Amateur Regatta (early/mid June)

Info for spectators

  • Reading University Head

This is organised by the University and is run from the large park area outside their boathouse on the North side of the river between the main 2 bridges.  Parking is available on the grass at the sire or in the car parks around the shopping area of Caversham

It is possible to cycle the whole of the course but it is a long way and path gets narrow and muddy.  Dogs are allowed.  Food is available from Waitrose by the boating area and the local pubs

  • Reading Amateur Regatta

This is run by Reading Rowing Club from their boathouse nearer the centre of the town along the Thames Promenade next to Caversham Bridge in Reading

The access route for parking  is from Thames Side Promenade through the car park behind Reading Rowing Club. Vehicles towing boat trailers or carrying sculling boats will be directed to a designated boat parking area.

The Thames promenade allows you to walk the complete length of the course giving excellent race viewing opportunities. Race commentary will be provided during the day. Refreshments can be purchased in the marquee throughout the day or bring a picnic and sit on the riverside-weather permitting.  Cycling is allowed if a little difficult given the number of spectators and dogs are allowed
