KINGSTON RACES: The Essentials

Events:

  • Kingston Small Boats Head
  • Kingston Head

Info for Spectators

Both events race from Hampton Court Bridge to Stevens Eyot by the Kingston Rowing Club boathouse. KCS normally boat out of Walbrook Teddington Rowing Club, Trowlock Way Teddington TW11 9QY. This is further up river beyond Kingston Rowing Club and on the other side of the river.

Parking: If you are dropping your rower at Walbrook there is no point trying to park there as you are too far from the action to be able to walk anywhere to see anything. Parking anywhere round here is a problem so best bet is probably to head for Kingston and pay to park in the town or try and find somewhere in the side roads around Bushy Park but at the weekends this will be difficult.

Viewing: From the start of the race down to Kingston Bridge you can walk along the towpath on the Home Park side (although the rowers will disappear for a bit down the other side of Thames Ditton Island). To follow the towpath you then need to cross at Kingston Bridge-which is itself a good viewing point as the boats pass underneath. From the Bridge down to the finish much of the view is obscured. Alternatively you can stand on the Kingston side from Thames Ditton Island down to the Bridge where the view is just as good and closer to sources of coffee and other hot drinks. Biking is permitted on most of the route.

Catering/Food: Endless possibilities on the Kingston side as you are right by the centre of Kingston; not much on the Home Park side.

What to bring: Can be very cold on the towpath so wrap up well.

Other useful points: Dogs allowed. No loos on the Home Park side but various possibilities in Kingston.
