Eugene Coakley is from the south of Ireland and began rowing aged 14. In a distinguished rowing career which spanned 14 consecutive years rowing for Ireland from 1995 to 2008; the highlights of his success was a silver and bronze medal at both the under 23 world championships(2000 & 2001)and the senior world championships. (2005 & 2006) plus a 6th place finish at the 2004 Olympic Games. Eugene also won 7 World Cup medals and won the overall event in 2006; he was a reserve rower at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. The determination shown by Eugene on the water was carried through to his academic achievements as the year he raced for Ireland at the under 18 world championships finishing 6th he also achieved the highest grades in his school. He then went on to achieve an honours degree in Civil Engineering, 4 years later. Eugene moved to London in 2012 and joined the KCS coaching team assisting with the J16 and senior team. After reaping such a reward from rowing Eugene is keen to pass on his knowledge of rowing and maybe even find from KCS the next Olympic star for GB.
